Object description
On the back of the photograph is an inscription in russian, written in purple ballpoint pen: "Ivanova A.M. Portrait of Komsomol member Morozova. 1937 Kabardino-Balkaria". What appears to be part of the painting depicts a girl turned towards the viewer from a three-quarter angle. The peculiarities of the work, especially its realistic interpretation, allow us to identify the sitter as the daughter of the bricklayer Morozko from the Gallery's collection (Ж-5141). According to the results of a special study, the shape of the skull, the eyebrows, the nose, the mouth, the lower jaw and the eye slit are the same in both cases, as well as the hairstyle. The question arises as to whether the signature on the photograph could be an inaccurate surname. After all, "Morozova" and "Morozko" are similar, and if, for example, the photographs were signed decades after the events, unlike the painting, an unidentified person could have entered inaccurate information, even from the artist's words. Confirming this without knowing the exact information about the person depicted is difficult. For example, in the painting "Children of the Bricklayer Morozko", the eldest daughter is wearing a pioneer's necktie. She is about 12 years old, so it is doubtful that in the painting of the same year, done in the summer (the background and outfit in the photograph "Portrait of the Komsomol Member Morozova"), the same person could have already been in the All-Union Leninist Communist Youth Union, which required an age of 14 to join. However, given the results of a special study, we consider it appropriate to put the corrected surname in brackets in the title after the name given in the caption.
