Object description
The colour photo shows a painting by the artist Antonina Ivanova on the subject of agricultural workers (according to the Ukrainian-language inscription under the photo, written in simple pencil: "Ivanova A. M. 1961. Swine-herd 1946. Moscow"). It is currently impossible to determine which of these dates is correct, but it is worth noting that the second date, "1946", was erased and corrected. The colour of the work has probably been misrepresented, as have the visual characteristics of the painting layer of the work. As for the choice of the type of characters and the peculiarities of the style used by the artist, it is undeniable that this work is influenced by the style of the artists of Mykhailo Boichuk's circle. At the same time, this picture has a certain consonance with the individual practices of artists such as Pieter Bruegel the Elder (for example, "Head of a Peasant Woman", 1568, from the collection of the Alte Pinakothek in Munich). Regarding dating, given the stylistic consistency of the artist's work in the post-war period, it is difficult to say which date is correct.
