Object description
The sketch shows a cup, probably made of porcelain (there is a simple pencil signature in russian on the reverse: "Sketch of a cup. A. Ivanova in (Mosgiki?) 1922 Moscow"). The piece is densely decorated with rapport ornaments and floral motifs arranged in registers, including fruit. These motifs are an interpretative variant of the decoration typical of folk art, which Antonina Ivanova studied intensively during her studies with Mykhailo Boichuk. In the 1920s, the artist approached them from both a scientific and practical point of view.
