Object description
The photograph depicts Antonina Ivanova's famous work "Milkmaid" (sometimes mistakenly referred to as "Woman with a Flower"). In the style of this work, Antonina Ivanova reflected the research in the field of Italian Renaissance visual culture that was typical of Mykhailo Boichuk's circle; in particular, we can see similarly styled profile images of figures in the practice of Piero della Francesca (for example, a portrait of Battista Sforza, 1465) and Sandro Botticelli (for example, a portrait of a girl, c. 1475). In addition, the results of studies of Ancient Egyptian wall paintings and fresco paintings of Ancient Rus are evident in the style and colour of the original. In recent years, the work has been reproduced in professional publications, in particular in the article by Halyna Khorunzha (co-author) about Antonina Ivanova's works in the Gallery's collection (Journal "Obrazotvorche Mystetsvo" [Fine Arts], Issue 3. – Kyiv: NUAU, 2021 – p. 21). The russian-language caption on the back of the photo, written in purple ballpoint pen, states that it is "Milkmaid". As for the date, the original work in the Gallery is dated 1962, but the photograph from Antonina Ivanova's archive shows a different date – 1965.
